Pier 26 is one of the best playgrounds in the city. The science playground is a great concept and provides shade inside the structures. Unfortunately not much shade outside, which is definitely downside during hot sunny days.
The science playground is catty corner to splash pad and playground with swings and sand. There is more shade in that playground. There is also a skatepark nearby. Although again without much shade.
